MENTAL HEALTH ADVOCACY

”Advocacy is an important means of raising awareness on mental health issues and ensuring that mental health is on the national agenda of governments. Advocacy can lead to improvements in policy, legislation and service development.”_ -WHO

The DPS is a staunch supporter of mental health advocacy. It has formulated several policies and guidelines to promote the human rights of persons with mental disorders and reduce stigma and discrimination associated with mental illness. The society as it’s mission has worked towards changing attitudinal barriers by creating positive mental health outcomes by promoting psychiatric education and research and by promoting equal access to high quality patient care for all individuals suffering from mental illnesses.
